Doom Troopers: The Mutant Chronicles came out for the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Adrenalin Entertainment. It was part of that wave of licensed games trying to capture the grim, industrial sci-fi look that was popular at the time. You could tell they were aiming for something with a bit more grit than the usual platformer.
You control one of two soldiers, each with their own weapon set, moving screen by screen through hostile environments. The main goal is to blast your way through waves of mutants, using a mix of standard firearms and special pickups like grenades or flamethrowers. The pacing is relentless; enemies pour in from all sides, and the level design often funnels you into tight, dangerous spaces. It feels chaotic and demanding, like you're barely holding the line against an overwhelming force.
